About the portrait

A larger-than-life head and shoulders portrait of the iconic former India captain Sachin Tendulkar wearing India Test shirt, against an abstract background.

Painted in 2025 from a photograph taken in 2007 when artist Stuart Pearson-Wright visited the multi award winning cricketer at home in Mumbai. Hero-worshipped in his native country, Tendulkar played international cricket for 24 years and remains the all-time highest run scorer in both ODI and Test cricket.

Artist Stuart Pearson-Wright disrupts traditional approaches to portraiture by throwing and spraying paint on to an abrased aluminium panel, creating a sense of chaos that contrasts with the top layer of paint applied with ordered brushstrokes to give the illusion of skin.
